RESIDENTIAL RISK ASSESSMENT

What is a residential risk assessment/site survey?

Simply put, this is an in-depth, detailed inspection of a person's property, which would normally include the identification of assets, threats, vulnerabilities, and exposure to risk.

R.M. Momboisse is the author of Riots, revolts, and insurrections (1967). Momboisse’s findings are still used by the US Department of Homeland Security. Momboisse wrote:

A security site survey is a critical, on-site examination & analysis of an individual plant, business, home, or public or private institution to ascertain the present security status, to identify deficiencies or excesses, to determine the protection needed & to make recommendations to improve overall security.”

C.A. Sennewald is a highly respected security expert and the author of Effective Security Management. Sennewalt wrote:

The primary vehicle used in a security assessment is the survey. The survey is the process whereby one gathers data that reflects the who, what, how, where, & why of the client’s existing operation. The survey is the fact-finding process”.

Our consultants will visit your home and conduct an assessment of:

  • Outer perimeter/property lines

  • Defensible space (the space between your outer perimeter and your house)

  • House

  • Door locks

  • Window locks

  • Garage doors

  • Security cameras

  • Indoor and outdoor motion detection systems

At Sentinel Protective Strategies, we understand, in today’s unpredictable social dynamics, a person’s home is their castle. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home, and the right to protect themselves, their family, and their property in a manner that is effective, necessary, and proportionate to the threat. With that in mind, we have developed a client-friendly process specifically catered to the individual and their needs.

At Sentinel Protective Strategies, we understand some clients prefer aesthetics over obvious security measures so we endeavor to provide options using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). The International CPTED Association defines CPTED as:

‘A multi-disciplinary approach of crime prevention that uses urban and architectural design and the management of built and natural environments. CPTED strategies aim to reduce victimization, deter offender decisions that precede criminal acts, and build a sense of community among inhabitants so they can gain territorial control of areas, reduce crime, and minimize fear of crime.’

Once a thorough assessment has been completed, we will brief you on our findings. This is when we highlight your current vulnerabilities and recommend risk mitigation measures (including CPTED) to protect you, your family, and your home.
