In a 20-year period, from 2000 to 2019, there were 333 active shooter incidents within the US. In 2021 and 2022, there was a combined total of 111 active shooter incidents. Unfortunately, the number of incidents is increasing, and the locations are varied.
ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE TRAININGWhat is an active shooter? An active shooter is one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area.
What is a mass killing? A ‘mass killing’ is defined as three or more killings in a single incident (not including the killer/killers).
In 2022, there were 50 active shooter incidents in seven different types of locations:
